Beloved Westchester Business Owner Dies At 69

A community is mourning the loss of a Hudson Valley woman who once owned two popular businesses in Northern Westchester and was known for her love of crafting.

Putnam County resident Diane Callahan-Caro of Brewster died on Friday, Jan. 19 in Newark, New Jersey at the age of 69, according to her obituary. 

Born in Morristown, New Jersey in 1954, Callahan-Caro went on to graduate from Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak in 1972 before earning her bachelor's degree from Briarcliff College. 

Years later in 1978, she married John Caro in Peekskill and together, they lived in Yorktown for 45 years. During this time, she owned and operated a craft store, Romancing the Home, and a card store, Callahan’s Sports Cards. 

The couple later moved to Brewster in 2015. 

According to her obituary, Callahan-Caro was a cartographer and had a passion for all kinds of crafting for much of her life. 

She is survived by her husband, John; her daughter, Megan Miller, and her husband, John Miller; her brother, Brad Callahan; and grandchildren, Adeline and Jackson. 

A memorial visitation for Callahan-Caro will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster at 1 Putnam Ave. A memorial service will be held immediately after from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the same location.
